March 15, 2023 - APWU and NMHU members joined forces for a rally against hazardous working conditions at the Carson ISC Facility. Originally, the “Carson Annex” was a temporary operation of the LA NDC; it was meant as an overflow operation. District USPS management decided to relocate the LAX International Service Center (LAX ISC) to the Carson facility, which resulted in crowded conditions, unsanitary work areas, and extreme temperature conditions (the building doesn’t have an HVAC system). Management’s meager response of providing a few heaters does not address the multitude of safety issues. The issues are being addressed through varied grievances, OSHA complaints, and Area Safety Committee appeals’ concerns. Due to the efforts of our Legislative & Political Director Terry De Bay Williams, we were joined by Lula Davis-Holmes, Mayor for the City of Carson; Congresswoman Nanette Barragán of California’s 44th District; and Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California’s 43rd District. Special thanks to Legislative & Political Director Terry De Bay Williams, Regional Safety & Health Representative David McSulla, Maintenance Chief Steward Donyea Ballard, Shop Steward RaVanda Senior, and Shop Steward Kevin Dantzler. Pictures of the rally are on our gallery.
